Database not found
#1
Hi,
So new to TDS and running the Airfoillabs King Air 350 with XP 12 12.4.0. Previously had Reality but latest has caused issues... have removed the app, software, files, folders and registry items.

TDS Installed OK no issues... updated the TDS GTNXi with Navigraph  AIRAC cycle : 2513
- Database installed in C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\TDS\GTNXi\Database\Xplane with the NavigraphDB.dat  plus Index, Jason and text files.
- Run XP and have the GTN 750 up on screen.
- This is where the system status shows SW 20.42.2  GPS 1.0.1.1 and all the database references show "Not Available"...hummm .... Database Update shows "no Databases"
-  Have reinstalled the software and same result.

The path for the Navigraph FMS download is as above.

Must be a path reference gone wrong... can you advise what I've missed.
Thanks
Nik

XP Log attached.

Hello Nik,

We are sorry to hear of the issues, we are here to help.

As you have stated that all database references are not found, then it means that something is wrong with the base Aviation Trainer Launcher for installing all databases.
This is not just the navdata, but terrain, obstacles, safetaxi, etc.

The base Aviation Trainer Launcher is the first component that you have installed, not the GTNXi PC Trainer V20.42.
Usually it would be V3.12.1.0 or V3.10.3.0

As a first step, let's try a manual install of the databases. Do you still have the base Aviation Trainer Launcher, if not, download the zip file of the version that you already have, extract it and manually run this file:

https://download.garmin.com/avtrainerful..._31210.zip
or
https://download.garmin.com/avtrainerful..._31030.zip

\setup_resources\databases\3.5.0.0\Databases.Setup.msi
This is an example path for V3.10.3.0

We suggest doing this after a fresh PC reboot. Not to worry, we will get this sorted, we always do.

Best regards.

Hi There,

OK... done what you have recommended. Downloaded the v3.12.1.0 which is the upgrade from the recommended version during the original install.

Ran the GarminTrainerSetup_31210 - then Databases.Setup.msi as located in C:\Users\xxxx\Downloads\GarminTrainerSetup_31210\setup_resources\databases\3.5.0.0

Rebooted.

Opened X-Plane and TDS Plugin for the GTN750. Loaded but still no database found.

I see the DB in  C:\ProgramData\TDS\Trainers\GarminTrainerSetup_31030\setup_resources\databases\3.5.0.0

Note: my X-Plane 12 runs on a separate disk, not C/:, usually apps ask where the XP12 is located. But, during the TDS install its didn't, BUT did load the Plugin correctly. My Reality plugin has been deleted as has the application.

Note: When running the Reality Garmin system.. the DB was in the Garmin folders in C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers and C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers. I assume these are still needed?? Or not??

I've read the manual but can you confirm/clarify where the Databases should be located, please. 'Cos if the GTN cannot find them then its probably pointing to the wrong directory??

Attached is the XP12 LOG.TXT - This is my basic load to quicken load time so some item didn't load. However,
- there's is a lot of [TDS GTNXi Plugin for XPlane]: XPLMRemoveMenuItem was passed an out of range item index.

Also attached is the TDS.log. showing
[12/01/2026 11:03:54.668 0000285c DATABASE_ERROR] Unable to determine Orig DB

For reference, Legacy.VCSelection=1 since this is a non integrated aircraft should this be =0

Also attached is a .TXT version on the TDSGTN.INI file which I found in the forums to show the GTN pop out. Is this correct? I assume so...

I trust this gives you as much info to form a solution.....over to you...Smile
Kind regards
Nik

Hello Nik,

Thank you for testing this. It seems that this is a clear issue of installing the base Aviation Trainer Launcher.
There is no need discussing/testing X-Plane or sending XPlane logs, as the issue lies internally with the PC Trainer and we must get it solved.

Please do not change any Legacy.VCSelection settings, we strongly suggest reverting everything to default and continuing troubleshooting as we describe this.

To confirm a proper installation, you need to have this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases

With all the corresponding databases, as enumerated above.

Ideally would be to uninstall the Aviation Trainer Launcher from within the Windows Control Panel, Add Remove programs. Then install it from the archive that you have downloaded.
GarminTrainerSetup_31210\GarminTrainerSetup.exe

After which confirm the presence of the database files:
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases

Please let us know how it goes, in addition you can always contact us via Discord with a private message (DM) @TDSSim

Hi,
Just a quick question.
You say that the database should be in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases - OK
So, do I need C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers ? if not ....Do I delete this folder?
Cheers
Nik

Hello Nik,

No, DO NOT delete the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers" folder under any circumstance. It contains vital PC Trainer components, we are not sure why you would want to do that. The PC Trainer uninstaller should automatically handle removing it, however databases are not saved there.

We would suggest to contact us via Discord DM so we can get this sorted faster than via the forums.

Hi Again,
I have used the Windows Delete to remove Aviation Trainer Launcher which it claims it did i.e. doesn't show anymore. I used GarminTrainerSetup_31210\GarminTrainerSetup.exe to install, but the Garmin installer pop out states that this is already installed! No change...

Tried to uninstalled again... but couldn't as it is not listed.
Slightly confused now... in Explorer there are TWO GARMIN folder.
1, C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN with bin, data, DirectX9.0c and images
2, C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers with Databases, GTI, GTN, Navigator_Xl_1, Navigator_Xl_2
note. under Databases there is only FPLN (empty)
Is this how it should be?

After the uninstall using both Windows and checking with a TPP uninstaller... neither now show the Aviation Trainer launcher listed but still list the Garmin GTN Trainer is this correct?

Why does Garmin installer state that its already installed? I had this very problem with Reality....
Hope you can shed light on this..
Nik

However, nothing has changed in Explorer WRT the two Garmin folders.

HI
Have Discord... how do I get in touch?

For other users who experience this issue, the cause is a bad uninstall, either by using third party tools, or via unknown reasons.
Because of this, PC Trainer remnants remain stuck in the registry, thus leading to the situation where the new PC Trainer can not be installed properly and an uninstall does not work.
The solution is to manually check/delete all PC Trainer registry entries related to Garmin uninstall info:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Dependencies
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Important note: the entire path must be searched and all references deleted, not just the first one.

Install the database manually, as it's possible the installer won't actually install it, even if it indicates otherwise.
  • Extract the file "GarminTrainerSetup_31210.zip"
  • Navigate to the directory "setup_resources\databases\3.5.0.0"
  • Run the file "Databases.Setup.msi"

Afterward, you'll see that the database information is present in the trainer software and also in the simulator.
