TAWS Test
#1
Hello,

On my last 3 flights the TAWS test has failed...I have never had an issue before.

I see that the Garmin aviation trainer has a new version out , does this have something to do with it.

Your TDS installer still recommends I stick with the current version and not upgrade...is this correct?

Hello,

At this moment we support version 20.42.2 of the GTNXi PC Trainer, we do not support tV21 yet.

For the TAWS failure, when in flight, please check/amend the TDS GTNXi interface, settings tab, TAWS type to TAWS-B.

Thank you...

They are both set to TAWS B but continue to fail the test..

Hello,

Please post a screenshot of the database info page, on startup.

I just updated the install manager, updated all app versions. Now TAWS test fails on the ground, set to TAWS-B as it always has been. The database page is missing, it goes directly from the initialization page to the home screen.

I'm not the OP, just experiencing similar issue.

Update: I usually use the 650 as a standalone, operating on an iPad Mini using SpaceDesk so I can have actual touch screen functionality. While troubleshooting the TAWS issue, I decided to launch the 750 to see if it had the same issue; it did not. In fact, after the TAWS test on the 750, the TAWS fail on the 650 was cleared.

Further, the system audio is controlled by the 750. Even though I have the system sounds on the 650 turned down to 5%, the 750 was set to 100% (default) Nearly scared the crap out of me when the top of descent aural notification fired off.

So there are definitely things going on that weren't occuring prior to the updates.

Hello,

When in flight with the desired aircraft, please access the TDS GTNXi interface, Settigns tab and for all units make sure that the TAWS Mode is the same. We would recommend Auto mode. After this a restart is required. The TAWS Mode must match in all units, since wee have added crossfill.

The TDS GTNXi now has per aircraft ini settings, which get loaded after the aircraft is loaded.

Observed the following upon further testing:

After following the above instructions, no change to behavior was noted. TAWS test will still fail on 650 unless 750 is initialized. After 750 is initialized, TAWS fail cleared on the 650.

The database screen is absent in the 650. It goes directly to the self test screen after the license screen, whether the 750 is initialized first or not.

Hello,

These are not bugs, but expected behavior as part of crossfill. Since the addition of crossfill, there is one main unit: Unit 1,in your case the GTN750Xi. Due to this, the Unit 1 must be initialized for TAWS tests to pass on the second GTN 650Xi unit. As far as the database information page, the same applies.

This is the beauty of the TDS GTNXi Pro: realism to the aviation level of detail!

Hello,

This may be true of installations where both the 750 and 650 are included in the avionics suite. Not so great if one is simulating a stand alone 650 installation. Perhaps include a settings option to define single or dual configuration?

Thank you!

Hello,

Yes, this is correct, for standalone mode this will not work perfectly. However we have plans ahead with standalone mode to improve it in many aspects and this will be an area that we will visit.

The TDS GTNXi Pro has evolved a lot and it is under continued development!
